Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after it was announced that East Ohio Regional Hospital (EORH) will re-open on February 4:

This announcement is very encouraging for Martins Ferry, Belmont County, and the entire region,” Bill Johnson said. “The closure of this hospital last year cost hundreds of jobs and left a tremendous gap in healthcare for the region. The entire community has been working hard to make this a reality, and I commend Dr. John Johnson and his team for their incredible efforts in getting to this point. EORH has already hired hundreds of workers, and made millions of dollars in improvements and upgrades.”

Dr. Johnson, a resident of Ohio, continues to exhibit great dedication to the Ohio Valley region with this monumental undertaking. Johnson added, “I share his vision for EORH as a catalyst for economic growth in the area. I think it’s already starting.”

When the hospital closure was announced, Johnson promised to assist in any way he could to re-open the hospital and find a solution. Along with engaging Governor DeWine and Jobs Ohio on several occasions, Johnson worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to secure the hospital’s new Medicare number, and his office researched federal grant options to assist with funding.
