Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after the Democratic-led House of Representatives voted on two articles of impeachment:

“Since November 8, 2016, the events of today were destined to happen. Democrats continue to refuse to accept the results of the 2016 election, and have openly talked about impeaching President Trump since before he was even sworn into office. Their hate has been on display for everyone to see. Once their Russian collusion fantasies were shattered, House Democrats quickly pivoted to a new fake scandal over President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

“President Trump has not committed any impeachable offenses. Despite what Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and their followers insist, they presented no evidence of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors.’

“I heard loud and clear from thousands of people in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio that are totally opposed to this sham impeachment process being run by House Democrats. This afternoon, I spoke out on the floor of the U.S. House, calling for a moment of silent reflection on behalf of the 63 million Americans - including the over 220,000 I represent across 18 counties who voted for President Trump - whose voice House Democrats are attempting to invalidate. Tonight, I emphatically voted no on both articles of impeachment.

“This process will end with an acquittal in the Senate, and the country will be even more divided. For what? So Democrats can use the impeachment process in an attempt to bloody up a sitting president less than year before his re-election? While this a sad chapter in our history, I have full confidence that the majority of the American people will see this charade for what it is.”
