Health Innovation Alliance (HIA) this week presented Congressman Bill Johnson (R-OH) with its 2019 Health IT Pioneer Award.

Health Innovation Alliance, in partnership with the Opioid Safety Alliance, presents Health IT Pioneer Awards to a select handful of federal legislators and regulators for their work in promoting technology policies and strategies to address the pressing challenges confronting the nation. Rep. Johnson received the award because of his work on the CONNECT for Health Act of 2019 and the Telemental Health Expansion Act of 2019.

“Health Innovation Alliance is pleased to honor Congressman Bill Johnson with our 2019 Health IT Pioneer Award,” said Health Innovation Alliance Executive Director Joel White. “Congressman Johnson’s unwavering support for and leadership on expanding telehealth coverage and reimbursement is laudable. For far too long, because of antiquated laws, Medicare beneficiaries have been left behind when it comes to advancements in technology. HIA looks forward to continuing to work with Congressman Johnson to ensure all patients have access to care when and where they need it.”

“I’ve long been an advocate for increasing telehealth services,” Bill Johnson said. “Having worked in the Information Technology industry for over 30 years, I know firsthand the benefits associated through this medical innovation. I’ll continue to support removing barriers in the ongoing efforts to expand greatly needed telehealth services in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio. More people - not fewer - should have the opportunity to utilize this emerging technology.”
