Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital hosted a congressman Tuesday to update him on challenges regarding services.

Bill Johnson toured the facility and meet with several staff members, including hospital CEO Bruce James.

James expressed gratitude for Johnson’s visit since he understands the struggles rural America faces.

“We talked a little about our transition and how that’s helping us and meeting our needs. Had a lot of conversations about telehealth and how that can help us going into the future, because I think that is one of the things we in Tuscarawas County are going to see.”

Johnson pointed out that many areas were talked over, such as general healthcare, regulations, and the difficulties in providing health access in rural locations.

One topic discussed related to stroke victims and how the Dover hospital has the capability to connect with the Cleveland Clinic for resources.

“There are a lot of unique challenges in this part of the country; [however], we’re seeing a real uptick in the quality of healthcare and the access. I’m pretty impressed with what I see.”

Johnson vowed to continue his efforts to get suitable broadband access to rural areas as the future healthcare system moves toward technology communications.
