Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after speaking during the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) press conference, where the agency released their final Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) Rule, which replaces the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan (CPP):

The current leadership at the EPA understands we can have smart environmental regulations AND protect coal jobs and our economy at the same time. This new rule announced today will help protect the good-paying jobs that so many hardworking families depend on by officially repealing the Obama-era Clean Power Plan, and will allow states and agencies like the Ohio EPA to do their own enforcement as opposed to being subjected to an overreaching Washington D.C. bureaucracy. Those of us that live and work in areas experiencing energy development know what works best for our environment and the livelihood of our people. We all share the same goal of wanting to breathe clean air and drink clean water – but, we must do it in a responsible way.

The federal government needs to be a partner in progress, not a constant barrier to energy development and growing the private sector economy. That’s what we are getting today – and what we didn’t get from the Obama Administration.

During the 2016 campaign, President Trump made ending the War on Coal a major component of his platform - and, he’s keeping that promise.
