The Ohio Valley Mall is the new home of the Belmont County VA Outpatient Clinic.

It actually moved from its old location in the Plaza West several weeks ago, but Friday was the grand opening.

The event drew so many people that it was held in the mall's community room, and still there were people standing in the hall.

The clinic serves more than 5,000 veterans a year.

It offers primary care, mental health care, podiatry and dietary services, lab work and X-rays, medication counseling, women's health and telehealth care.

Congressman Bill Johnson gave the keynote address, recalling his own military service, calling it the best decision he ever made.

But he said bureaucracy "at the top" has not made it easy for veterans to receive the quality health care they deserve.

"So many times, the first complaint I get from a veteran: 'Why do I have to drive three and four hours to get to the health care that I was promised when I put on the uniform?' Many local veterans will no longer have to make that trip to Pittsburgh, to Columbus, to Cleveland or Chillicothe."

They say the new clinic also offers dermatological testing, audiology services and the latest in medical equipment.
