Congressman Bill Johnson released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

“Hardworking Americans deserve a pay raise, and they deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money.  Today, the House took a critical step toward delivering exactly that, and more - historic tax relief to the American people and businesses that have been overtaxed and put at a competitive disadvantage for too long. This important legislation would create hundreds of thousands of jobs, lower taxes, and result in bigger take-home paychecks for families in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, and all across America.  This tax relief package will provide significant tax relief for middle class families – the backbone of our nation who are often ignored by Washington. Simply put, there is a lot to like about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act - the legislation lives up to its name, and it was an easy YES vote.

“Today’s action in the US House clearly illustrates that Republicans are unified when it comes to delivering on promises made to the American people.  Though they do have differences that will need to be worked out in conference, both the House and Senate tax relief bills would achieve the same goals - both bills cut taxes, raise wages, and spur economic growth, which will result in more opportunities for hardworking American families to achieve the American Dream. I’m hopeful the Senate will follow the House’s lead in passing this important legislation, and that the two bills will be reconciled and signed into law by President Trump.”
