Congressman Bill Johnson has pledged to volunteer 100 hours each year to veteran groups around Ohio. Friday, he stopped at American Legions Post 29 to serve food and talk with veterans about concerns they have.

Congressman Johnson represents Ohio’s sixth congressional district, which covers more territory than any other in Ohio. Congressman Johnson says this is just a small way to show his appreciation.

“We’ve got roughly 54,000 veterans that live in our district and this is just a small way for me as a fellow veteran, and as their representative in the United State’s House of Representative, to say thank you for their service, their sacrifices, and to try to make sure they know we care about them,” said Congressman Johnson.

Congressman Johnson spent 26 years in the Air Force and said that he understands many of the problems these veterans are going through.

“I come from a legacy of service members in my family,” said Congressman Johnson. “Many of my uncles were service members, Army, Navy, Air Force, and having served myself there is no question in my mind that freedom is not free and it takes the dedicated service of our men and women in uniform.”

Congressman Johnson said he will continue to volunteer for veterans groups in his district the rest of the year.
