Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement on President Obama’s plan to close Guantanamo Bay:

“I remain steadfastly opposed to closing Guantanamo Bay. My answer to the President’s plan is absolutely not. The world’s most dangerous terrorists should be at Guantanamo – an isolated, well-guarded facility – not on the U.S. mainland. Why would we bring terrorists bent on killing Americans to our shores?

“The 2016 NDAA, signed into law by President Obama himself, very specifically bars him from closing Gitmo and transferring detainees to a domestic location. Congress is not going to agree to sacrifice our national security in an effort to fulfill a long-ago campaign pledge as this presidency winds down.”
