Bill Johnson Response to President Obama’s State of the Union

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement following President Obama’s State of Union address
Never in my lifetime have I seen a President seem so small and insignificant in the face of so many tremendous global challenges – challenges that require American leadership abroad, and the ability to unite at home. Tonight’s speech didn’t change any of that, and he continues to preside over the downsizing of the American Dream – with a record number of Americans pessimistic about the future. I found it particularly stunning that this President, after seven years of dividing our country more deeply than we've been in generations, is now, in his final year, calling for civility.
Terrorism generally, and ISIS specifically, is on the march across the globe; we saw another reminder of this earlier today in Turkey. While ISIS gained strength and influence in the Middle East, President Obama sat on his hands – choosing to ignore his “red line” in Syria and focus on his need to close the terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay. Vladimir Putin continues to push President Obama around on the global stage, and longstanding allies, like Israel, are wondering where they stand with a White House that has chosen to cozy up with Iran.
At home, the number of Americans out of work or having stopped looking for work is epidemic – we have the lowest labor participation rate in decades. The national debt is spiraling out of control at a historic pace - by the time President Obama leaves office next January, the debt our children and grandchildren will have to deal with, will have doubled on his watch. The President and his federal agencies are actively trying to destroy the coal industry - many miners in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio can certainly attest to this. He told us “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” That turned out to be false, and healthcare premiums for many on Obamacare are skyrocketing. Now, he is trying to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights and protect their families.
America cannot afford for this President to go legacy hunting. His legacy of failure is clear, even if he doesn’t know it yet.
