Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) is pleased to announce that Megan Lattocha, a junior at Union Local High School in Belmont County, will represent his office in the United States Capitol as a winner of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. “Thank you to all of the students who participated in this year’s art competition, and congratulations to Megan Lattocha, our winner from Ohio’s 6th Congressional District,” Bill Johnson said. “This is now the 5th year my office has participated in this contest, and somehow the quality of work seems to get better and better each year. I look forward to seeing Miss Lattocha’s artwork hanging in the U.S. Capitol alongside the winners from around the country,” Bill Johnson said. Miss Lattocha’s artwork, entitled “Underwater Fun,” was done using chalk pastels. The art teacher at Union Local High School is Mrs. Lisa Marple. “This marks the fourth time in five years a student from Union Local has won this art competition. That fact speaks very highly of the artistic talent of the students there, as well as the program and the quality of instruction the students receive from Lisa Marple. The submissions I have received from her students the last few years have been remarkable, Bill Johnson said.” As part of the nationwide competition, Miss Lattocha is invited to participate in a ceremony that will be held in Washington D.C. honoring winners from congressional districts across America. Southwest Airlines has donated two free air tickets to Miss Lattocha and a parent for travel to the ceremony. Miss Lattocha’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol with other congressional district winners from around the country; residents of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio will be able to view her work while on guided tours of the Capitol building. The artwork of the other finalists will be in displayed in Rep. Johnson’s Ohio offices in Marietta, Salem, Cambridge, Ironton, and in his Washington D.C. office. The student art work was judged by a panel made of district residents and art instructors the week of April 27.
