Representative Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2029, the Fiscal Year 2016 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill:

“Today, the House took an important step forward in ensuring America’s heroes – our veterans – and their families continue to receive the benefits they have earned serving our country.  The bill that passed the House today includes funds to address the claims backlog – something I often hear about from those I represent - and would increase medical research, all while maintaining stringent oversight over the VA.  Additionally, this legislation would provide funding for the construction and renovation of our military bases, and $607 million for medical facilities to take care of the 9.8 million veteran beneficiaries,” Bill Johnson said.

“As a 26 year veteran of the United States Air Force, making sure America’s veterans – those who willingly risked their lives in defense of our freedom – receive the benefits they have earned will always be one of my top priorities.  I was proud to vote in favor of this legislation, and I will continue to closely follow its progress as it works its way through the Senate.”
