Representative Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1560, the Protecting Cyber Networks Act by a vote of 307-116:

“Having spent over 30 years in the Information Technology (IT) industry, I understand how critically important cybersecurity is.  As we become more reliant on technology, our digital networks become more susceptible to attacks by cybercriminals.  Recent data breaches at a large national retailer and a global financial firm only reinforce the fact that we need to strengthen our cyber networks to make them more secure,” Bill Johnson said.

“Today, the House took an important step forward in addressing the growing threat to our cyber networks by passing this important legislation that would encourage private companies to voluntarily share cyber threat indicators with the federal government – but not through the NSA or Department of Defense – in an effort to protect American consumers against cyber threats.  The Senate failed to take up these important cybersecurity measures in the past because of Harry Reid and his obstruct-first operation in the Senate.  I’m hopeful the new Senate will act, and take-up this bipartisan legislation very soon; the threats won’t wait, and neither should our policy makers.”
