Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after tensions between Israel and the Palestinian Authority – the Hamas unity government -- reached a flashpoint. On Thursday, Gaza militants fired more than 140 rockets at Israeli residential areas.

“The recent formation of a “unity” government between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas – which the United States has defined as a terrorist organization -- is disheartening.  The PA-Hamas unity government is now launching rockets indiscriminately at innocent men, women, and children throughout Israel - some reaching Israel’s capital of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and other major cities throughout the country.  These attacks on our closest ally in the region cannot be ignored or tolerated, and I urge this administration to immediately halt funding to the Palestinian Authority and suspend all relations until the PA shows they do not support terror attacks against Israel or its people.  I stand with Israel, and America must stand with Israel.  My thoughts and prayers go out to all those adversely affected by the recent rocket attacks.”
