Representative Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act 390 to 33:

“I’m glad President Obama took to the podium today to finally address the widespread mismanagement at VA facilities across the country.  But the truth is, our veterans deserve more than just words.  They deserve real reforms, answers, and most importantly, accountability from those charged with providing their healthcare and other benefits.  I, along with my colleagues in the House, voted to bring both the accountability and integrity that have been glaringly absent from the VA back to the VA.  This common-sense, bipartisan bill would grant current and future VA Secretaries more power to remove senior executive level personnel who fail to perform their jobs.

“We owe quality and timely healthcare to the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and defending us.  They’ve earned it.  I urge the Senate to approve this important legislation, and send it to President Obama for his signature immediately.”
