Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted 232-186 to establish a select committee to further investigate the September 11, 2012 attacks on our diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya:

“On September 11, 2012, terrorists attacked our consulate and killed four Americans – including our Ambassador.  A year and a half later, there are more questions than answers regarding embassy security prior to the attack, the military’s response during the attack, and the Administration’s changing account of what happened following the attack.  I was deeply disturbed by the recent release of e-mails showing significant White House involvement in misleading the American people, and I remain troubled by this Administration’s defiance of subpoenas issued by the People’s House.

“The American people – and especially the victims’ families -- are owed the truth.  I expect that Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and those appointed to the bipartisan select committee will provide accountability and answers for the American people.”
