Message From AEP

Marietta, July 1, 2012
A message shared with me directly from AEP.

This was a significant event that was more severe than the remnants of Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans are without power. The Governor has declared a state of emergency, and we have hundreds of crews working around the clock to get power restored as quickly as possible. Additional crews from neighboring states are also here working with us.

For some perspective on the current state of repairs and the timing of the restoration of power -

AEP operates the largest electricity transmission system in the country. Some of our main transmission lines that were located in rural areas of the state were severely damaged by the storm.  Repairing these main lines requires much greater effort than repairing a downed suburban line.  It is dangerous work, and we are working as quickly as possible, but also as carefully as possible, to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees and customers in this heat and weather.
