Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) is pleased to announce he is holding a video competition for eastern and southeastern Ohio high school students examining how the nation’s skyrocketing debt will affect their future.

“The greatest threat we face to our continued prosperity is the out-of-control federal spending,” Congressman Johnson said. “The nation’s debt stands at more than $14 trillion and some in Washington still insist on spending more money. This is an incredible financial burden that’s being loaded onto future generations who will, through no fault of their own, assume responsibility for Washington’s irresponsibility. I want to hear directly from today’s youth how they think the skyrocketing debt will impact their lives and learn their ideas for stopping Washington’s spending addiction.”

High school students can participate in “How The Nation’s Debt Will Affect Me” by creating videos explaining how the nation’s skyrocketing debt will impact their future in five years, 10 years, even 20 years down the road.

Videos should be no more than 2 minutes in length and be appropriate for all ages. Students may submit videos by providing Congressman Johnson’s office with a YouTube link through Congressman Johnson’s Facebook, Twitter or YouTube networks. For Twitter submissions, students should use the hashtag #OHDebtVideos.

Videos are due by 5 pm Friday, May 20, 2011. The top videos will be featured through Congressman Johnson’s website as well as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
