Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement on Tax Day, April 18, 2017:

It’s official – Tax Day is here. Hardworking American families and small businesses again this year will fork over more of their hard-earned money to a broken down and inefficient federal government. The document our Founding Fathers wrote that created the greatest nation on the planet - the U.S. Constitution - has less than 5,000 words. Compare that to the U.S. tax code, which is over 75,000 pages long. And, despite all the taxes you pay, the federal government still borrows over $1 trillion a year. It’s depressing to think about.

It’s far past time for a fresh start…we need to start over and throw out our current tax code. It has been more than thirty years since comprehensive tax reform was last enacted in Congress. The American people deserve a simpler, fairer, and flatter tax code that rewards success and encourages economic growth. This is one of the primary reasons I came to Congress in the first place...I'm looking forward to helping get it done. Now is the time for Congress to act.
