Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after President Donald Trump signed an executive order rolling back many Obama-era climate policies:

Today’s executive order directly addresses many of the Obama Administration's efforts to permanently shutter the coal industry and kill fossil fuel-related jobs across the country. Ohio’s fossil fuel energy industries and hardworking taxpayers have been hit especially hard by President Obama’s left-wing legacy pandering. There is no reason to punish consumers and job creators for responsibly using our natural energy resources, and this executive action will allow American companies and workers to compete – and succeed – on a level playing field in the global economy. I was pleased to be asked to join President Trump for today’s signing ceremony.

The President demonstrated today that there can be a common-sense balance - it is possible to have environmentally responsible regulations that don’t result in lost jobs and skyrocketing electricity costs. Moving forward, today’s action will usher in a new era in American energy production, and that includes giving the coal industry the opportunity to fairly compete with other energy sources.
