Representative Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement on President Trump’s executive action regarding the Obama Administration’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The Obama rule, first proposed in April 2014, would alter the definition of what constitutes the “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act, thus increasing the amount of water subject to federal regulations:

“Allowing the EPA to unnecessarily regulate more is not the answer. We've already seen what the EPA has done to the coal industry through executive overreach. The hardworking people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, especially our farmers, simply don’t need EPA bureaucrats coming around and regulating their ditches and puddles.

“The House, joined by the Senate, voted to repeal the onerous WOTUS rule last year, but it was vetoed by President Obama. So, I certainly welcome President Trump’s much-needed review of this rule.”
