Bill Johnson: America Needs a Balanced Budget
Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement on the release of the House Republican Budget. The Path to Prosperity balances in 10 years, and preserves and protects vital programs like Medicare, all without raising taxes on anyone.
“America has two clear paths forward when it comes to getting our fiscal house in order. The House Republican plan, the Path to Prosperity, balances the budget in 10 years, preserves and protects important programs like Medicare, and creates jobs. By balancing the budget in 10 years, America’s economy will have the certainty needed to grow and create jobs. Twelve million Americans were actively looking for work last month, and many more are underemployed. The balanced House Republican Budget is a common sense approach that would put America back on a sound fiscal path while putting Americans back to work. Congress and the President must realize that the American people aren’t taxed too little; rather, Washington spends too much. This budget recognizes that fact, and takes major steps toward addressing the problem.
“The House Republican budget would return the $700 billion to Medicare that the President’s health care law took from it, helping to ensure that this critical program will remain strong for current seniors and future generations.
“The House Republican plan, the Path to Prosperity, is a bold, fiscally responsible, and sustainable path forward. It would balance the budget, create jobs, and save and protect vital programs like Medicare, all without raising taxes on hardworking middle class families. America is at a crossroads. We can continue to choose the unsustainable path of bigger government, more debt, higher taxes, and more regulation which stunt job creation, smother economic growth, and risk the prosperity of our children and grandchildren. Or, by adopting the House Republican budget plan, we can force Washington to begin living within its means, unleash our job creators and innovators, put America back on a path toward real economic growth, and restore confidence in the American dream."
