Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement today in response to MarkWest’s announcement to expand natural gas development in Harrison, Guernsey, Noble, and Belmont counties starting later this year.

“There’s no doubt that increased natural gas development will bring economic growth to Eastern and Southeastern Ohio. MarkWest’s announcement to expand its natural gas gathering infrastructure in Harrison, Guernsey, Belmont, and Noble counties is great news for Eastern Ohio. Developing America’s domestic energy resources will lower energy prices, make America more energy independent, and create much needed jobs right here in Ohio. Increasing natural gas development is part of the true ‘all of the above’ approach to energy production that takes advantage of America’s rich domestic natural energy resources and our ready and willing labor force. The development of the Marcellus and Utica shale plays in Ohio is bringing much promise for job creation, and it is important that we ensure these Ohio jobs are filled by Ohioans. This announcement by MarkWest is a great sign of what’s to come for Eastern Ohio,” said Bill Johnson.
