Bill Johnson Statement on the May Jobs Report
Washington,
Jun 1, 2012 -
Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement today in response to the May jobs report showing that the unemployment rate jumped up to 8.2% with only 69,000 jobs being added to the economy in May.
“Today’s jobs report is a stark reminder that President Obama’s policies have failed America and continue to make our economy worse. For far too long unemployment has remained above 8% - even after President Obama promised the American people that his failed ‘stimulus’ package would keep unemployment at or below 8%. President Obama also promised us that his health care law would create jobs, but over 40% of small businesses are saying that this disastrous law is keeping them from hiring and expanding. President Obama’s economic policies are nothing more than broken promises covered in empty political rhetoric,” said Bill Johnson.
Johnson added, “House Republicans have taken real steps to put America back to work – like voting for the Keystone XL Pipeline Energy Project that would create over 100,000 jobs, move America closer to energy independence, and ease the pain that Americans are feeling at the gas pump. For Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, I have been working hard to stop the implementation of many job killing regulations that the Obama Administration is pushing, including one that threatens thousands of coal industry jobs. This is on top of over 30 jobs bills passed by House Republicans that President Obama and Senate Democrats continue to block because of partisan politics. House Republicans are offering real solutions and a better path to a healthy private sector economy that restores economic security and opportunity - because Americans can no longer afford the Obama Administration’s status quo.”
